Sights and Sounds of Our House

Here are some of the sights and sounds you find if visiting our house in the last week or so. Yep, never a dull moment here.

Every summer it seems like we pick a game that's popular. This year it is a video game named Mappy. Alyssa keeps calling it Mapsy. There have been some pretty intense high score battles with our neighbor, Joe.

Sometimes Alyssa gets into the action after dance class, too.

Alyssa was playing with some of her toys before nap time. She told me that one was The King and the other was named Your Majesty. She said Your Majesty is the servant of The King.

Dave has been great about letting me sleep in to recover from my surgery. One morning I came down and the little kids kept pointing at our fan. I looked up at saw that someone had made a one in a million shot with the fake snake. Can you guess who it was?

Lauren, Drew and Jack are now starting to ask questions. Now they stick our their arms (palms up, elbows in) as if to say "where?" and say things like "other shoe?" (Where did the other shoe go?) or "Daddy go"? (Where did Daddy go?)

I am constantly asking Dave "Does this way 5 lbs?" "Does that weigh more than 5 lbs ?? (5 lbs is the limit of what I am supposed to lift this week.)

Dave has already shared with you how much fun he had at the library. But we he didn't tell you was that the castle that Alyssa made there, which she covered with glitter glue, met up with his favorite Notre Dame hat. Isn't it pretty? The Irish never looked so good.

I decided to torture Dave one day by putting something in a Tupperware container. He struggled and grunted and groaned trying to open that container, but did not succeed in opening it. A little later, I came into the room and he informed me that the container was impossible to open. Then I picked it up, used my knowledge of the secret button in the middle, and opened it up. Yeah, that's a good way to drive your husband nuts. Guys, these are the secret things we talk about when we are in the bathroom taking forever.

Here's Lauren making up for some lost snuggle time by sleeping with her teddy bear (Baba), Piglet and her baby at once.

Alyssa was imitating the 7 Dwarfs. But instead of saying "Hi ho hi ho." She was marching around singing "I hope. I hope."

This is for all those moms out there who warn their kids to keep the bleach away from the carpeting. This is the rug from our garage. I left to run an errand and came back and found this. Apparently, when deck cleaner falls off the the top shelf in the garage, it gets a crack in it. Then it splashes and spills all over your garage, and this is what happens when it gets to a blue rug. Take if from us, kids, don't try this at home.

Alyssa was imitating someone clapping and saying "Encore. Encore." But she was clapping saying "Cardboard. Cardboard."

We have been teaching the little kids the different sounds that animals and other things make. They have been learning that the thunder says "Boom. Boom.." But with all the fireworks going off, we have heard a lot of "Funder. Boo. Boo." this week!

I guess you could say that we love the Sports Page here so much, that we wash it to keep it longer.

After we prayed at lunch, Alyssa said, "I was watching Jack pray, and fold his hands, and I was really impressed. "

Lately Lauren has been answering questions,  "Ummmmm, yeah." It's as if she has a lot to ponder before she answers. Lauren, are you and Joe coloring? Ummmmm. Yeah.

Here's a little something Dave cooked up for a prank. It's the old stapler in the jello trick from The Office. It was a gift for a fellow co-worker who was starting a new job. She's a big fan of the show.

We also had the grand opening of the pool today (now that we have a source of water). We bought this pool, because it looked fun with the racetrack on the bottom and the cars that came with it. Since we had Alyssa first, our toys are heavy on the girly side anyway.

What we didn't know is that this pool is also aerodynamic. We were eating dinner and the doorbell rang. It was the neighbors returning our pool which had flown over the fence into their yard.

And last, but not least, I'll leave you with a video of Alyssa giving free cart rides. Enjoy.

God bless,

Amanda

Grocery Rescue

Merry Christmas everyone!

Dave here again. We've had a fun Christmas experience so far, and it's been fun to see the babies and Alyssa open presents and play with new toys. Amanda and I sang "Happy Birthday" to Jesus with the triplets, and we look forward to the day when we can explain to them the real meaning of Christmas.

Amanda's family came over for Christmas dinner, and being the genius that I am, I did some last minute grocery shopping the night before Christmas. Oh yeah, by the way, all the stores apparently forgot to call me to let me know they close early on Christmas Eve. Isn't Christmas Eve the day when all males go shopping for gifts? How dare all these stores close and deny us men time to shop! Thankfully, Walgreens was open, and they had the items we needed, and Amanda made an incredibly tasty lasagna that would have made Garfield proud.

Yesterday, the day after Christmas, I decided to take Alyssa and Drew to the store with me for a quick grocery stop. It was about 10:30 in the morning, and I told Amanda that I would be quick because lunch for the triplets was at 11:30. Being the experienced shopper that I am, I even made a grocery list in the form of a map, so I could fly through the store.

Alyssa likes going to this particular store, because they have these little kid cars attached to the grocery cart, so that she can pretend to "drive" the grocery cart. Well, usually, there are two steering wheels, but this one only had one because one had broken off.

So, we're flying through the store at an efficient pace, when Alyssa whines to me, "Daddy, my wand fell." (Alyssa was allowed to bring her little princess wand into the grocery.) Now, the problem was that she was placing the wand in a hole where the steering wheel normally is, and she dropped it into the plastic encasing (the kid's cart). I'm not sure even how to explain it, but basically, her 6 inch wand was inside the kid's cart, and I had no idea how to get it out.

This happened right next to the customer service desk, and fortunately for us, the head honcho was right there, and he was determined to rescue the wand for Alyssa. We used Allen wrenches, Phillip's screwdrivers, and needle nose pliers to rescue the wand. We tore apart this cart for about 45 minutes just to get the wand out for Alyssa. Now, some of you may be saying... "All this just for a wand?" ABSOLUTELY!!!! A 4 year old's princess wand means quite a bit to her, and as the mission control director said in Apollo 13, "Failure is not an option!" So, they will continue to get our business because of their desire to make a little girl and her daddy happy.

Well, that's it for now. We hope you all had a Merry Christmas!!!

Take care.
Mr. Mom
