Last First Day of Preschool

September 2nd marked the last time that Alyssa will ever have a first day of preschool again. I wish I could say that I reflected greatly on that day and took it in for all of its sentimental value, but I was too busy running around like the Taz trying to get everyone out the door on time.

I had talked to Alyssa ahead of time told her I would take her picture on the front porch, after I got her siblings strapped into the van. I remembered last year on the first day of preschool, I got some resistance. I thought telling her about it in advance would work, but it turns out that she didn't want to pose alone. So Lauren agreed to be her sidekick model so I could get some pictures taken. You'll note the pigtails to distract from the haircut.

So we piled in the car and made the 3 minute drive to preschool. Alyssa and I have this tradition where we pull into the parking lot and yell "Preschool!" (It's something I started to try to make it a positive experience.) Then in the 4 of us went. I was feeling brave and decided to just try holding hands. The kids did pretty well and I was even able to snap a few shots of Alyssa at her new school.

Alyssa did really well starting a new preschool and took it all in stride and went right to work on her little craft. Lauren, Drew and Jack, however, were very wide-eyed at the whole event and the crying they heard as we walked out the hallway. So then I was down to just 3 kids. Piece of cake right? I had plans for a couple of girlfriends to come over (one who is town from Oregon!), but they weren't coming over for a bit. So the little kids were asking to color, like they saw their big sister doing. So I pulled out the butcher paper and let them go at it. It wasn't as fun as our trip to the mall last year, but I think they had a really good time.

Sniff. Sniff. Now I am getting sentimental writing this. My little girl is growing up. My babies aren't babies anymore. It's like I lost 2 years of my life or something!

God bless,

Amanda

Haircuts

Recently I got the idea that to save a little money, I was going to start cutting Alyssa's hair. So I bought some special scissors for this a while ago. However,we never seemed to have time to sit down and do it, so Dave took her out for a quick cut last time.

This time around, I was determined to do it myself. I thought I had a little play room, since Alyssa has curly hair and you couldn't tell as much if I didn't cut it perfectly straight. Well, it didn't go so well and my daughter ended up looking like a cross between an Amish girl and a 20's flapper. Let's just say that I learned a lot, and there is a reason that people go to school to learn this stuff!

IMG_9119

Lesson #1

Don't try something new, like cutting your daughter's hair, just before a big day, like say the first day of preschool.

Lesson #2

Wet bangs combed straight over a 4 year olds eyes is tickley and itchy and makes them squirm. You have to work fast or pull the hair away from their eyes.

Lesson #3

Taking a 1/3 of the length off of curly hair also makes it bounce up 3 times as much.

Lesson #4

When you cut a lot off of your 4 year old daughter's hair, she will tell everyone that you were the one that did it.

Lesson #5

Start with just cutting a little bit! If you don't like it, you can always cut off more. Don't worry about being efficient.

Lesson #6

Don't try to squeeze a first haircut in between two other events, like church and lunch.

Lesson #7

Don't do haircuts on the front porch, as you feel even more pressure with the neighbors watching you!

Lesson #7b

A better place to cut hair would be in front of the TV, so that your squirmy child is distracted to sit still for a bit.

Lesson #8

If you cut too much off, don't keep trying to cut hair around it to "even it out." Just stop and cut your losses! (No pun intended.)

Lesson #9

Ponytails, hats and headbands are your friends.

It's a good thing it will be a while before the little guys need a cut, because I have lost all confidence and need time to practice!

Then, low and behold, a few days later another opportunity to cut Alyssa's hair presented itself. I know what you are saying, Amanda, didn't you read Lesson #8? Well, let me tell you what happened. A few days later, Grandma and Papo came for a visit, and helped me take the kids out. They let each kid pick one toy to purchase. One of the boys chose a helicopter. Alyssa was playing with it at the table, and all of a sudden started yelling "Ow ow OUCH!!!" We looked over and this is what we saw:

IMG_9189

There was no untangling that hair. It was wrapped around the propeller many times. See, it's a good thing I bought those scissors after all!

The Fairest of All

A few weeks ago we took our annual (except for the years that we have triplets) trek to the State Fair. Usually, this is during the hottest, most humid weather of the year. Instead, this year, it was very mild with the high only in the mid-70's. It was a great day, with such fair weather (sorry, I couldn't resist). Now that I think about it, was on 08-08-08 so that made it a special day in itself. We had a great time, I must say.

After our not so fun adventures at the zoo, our plan of attack was this. First, we brought along 2 grandparents so we could play a man-to-man defense. Secondly, we decided on the 3 single stroller configuration. This would allow us to weave through the crowds and narrow animal pens, get one kid out of the stroller without the other expecting to get out also, and to divide and conquer the different attractions. It would also allow us to easily change who was in what stroller (with the triple stroller, you have to take the kids out in one order or it tips and flips). Thirdly, we packed up the night before so that we could get out the door as quickly as possible and maximize the morning "happy time" of our kids. I think it worked, because we had a great day! I think next year we'll have to get a camera that is better at capturing the action, though. (Yes, we are like "Jon and Kate Plus 8" - we hate our camera!)

We started out at the "Little Hands on the Farm" exhibit. We really had fun at this last year with Alyssa, so we wanted to go there right away before it got too crowded. The kids looked so cute in their little aprons and ball caps. They got to pretend they were farmers by doing such tasks as collecting corn and feeding it to some animals, selling wool, eggs, fruit and vegetables back to the market, milking a cow, and riding a tractor. It's always fun to go to a place where it's ok for the kids to touch everything and explore it. They really enjoyed it a lot. The only problem is that they enjoyed the mini tractors so much, that all 3 of our 2 year olds threw complete tantrums when we had to take them off. I guess they thought it was theirs for the day. The food allergies came into play again as we went to buy something with the "bucks" the kids made from selling their goods at market. Luckily, we found some apple juice and cereal quickly and made our way out of there before more tantrums erupted.

Then we headed off to the animal barns to see the real animals. The kiddos enjoyed waiving to the shuttle that went by on the walk there. Then we had fun seeing the kids' expressions and exclamations as they touched the different animals. They seemed to enjoy them and making all the sounds each animal makes. Lauren kept saying "cocka-dooah-doo" around the roosters. It was as if they were trying to talk to them in their own language.

It was about this time that Jack spilled the apple juice that he "earned" all over himself. Luckily, we were by a bathroom, so that I could run back and forth and get paper towels. It was almost lunchtime, so we decided not to change his clothes, since they would just get dirty again in a few minutes. But, boy, you should have seen some of the stares we got until I explained he spilled apple juice. You could tell that one lady thought I was completely incompetent as a mother (assuming I hadn't brought a change of clothes or didn't know his pants were wet). Jack was completely fine with it, and had a great time seeing the rest of the animals. But, much to our chagrin, his favorite thing of the whole day was the vending machine. I guess he just didn't get enough liquid refreshment for the day.

We also introduced the kids to fair food, as well as we could with the allergies. Drew did enjoy his first pork tenderloin! You can't go wrong with fries and hot dogs, too. Before we left, we got Alyssa what turned out to be a huge bowl of ice cream. She ate the whole thing on the walk back to the car, then she complained that she didn't like it. Yeah, the evidence of that was written all over her face.

We also took the kids on their first carnival ride at the fair. We chose some manly truck rides. While they were waiting in line, Lauren kept trying to climb over the gate, saying "My turn! My turn!" We weren't sure if they would cry or scream on the rides, but they all seemed to like it pretty well. The trio had kind of blank overwhelmed looks on their faces, but Alyssa had a good time!

Here are tons more pictures to see. I wanted to get some individual shots of each kid. That adds up to quite a few pictures!

God bless,

Amanda

Buh Bye Babysites

I wanted to let you all now that we will be shutting down our old website soon. I think September 20th is the last day. So if you want to take one last look at the pictures of our kids when they were really teeny, this is your last chance. Sorry, I just don't have time to transfer all of that. I am, however, working on transferring the journal entries. So far, I have moved about 35. You can get to them under "Past Entries" on the right side of this page. They are under "2005" and "2006". Eventually, there will be some from 2007 and 2008! (If anyone is a techie out there who knows of a quicker way to transfer them than Copy/Paste, let me know!)

Thanks to all of you who supported us through our 1st site! We did save it to show our kids someday how much you loved on our family.

God bless,

Amanda

Chillin' with the Chicas

For those of you who read my last post, you can probably tell that I had a pretty tough week last week. Thanks to those of you who offered your sympathies and support! I have always been a big fan of journaling. I guess now that I have shifted to doing it online. That makes it even more fun, because I get so much encouragement back!

Speaking of journaling, I mentioned a while back that I was asked to speak at a women's retreat. It was this past weekend. Thanks for those of you who prayed for me! I think it went pretty well. At least that's what I was told. I was asked to speak for about 20 minutes about some of the things that I have learned the last few years. Where do I begin???! So I was looking back at my journal and found some pretty amusing and amazing things. I thought I would share a highly edited version of them with you. These were written when Alyssa was about 1 1/2 and we were deciding if we wanted to put ourselves through fertility treatments again or not. Then there are more thoughts as we went through the process. Someday I'll have to write out the whole story. Boy, did God answer my prayers and take care of my fears that I went to Him with!

"What if I get pregnant with twins? What will I do?"

May 23, 2005

"Lord, I so hate to be on that roller coaster again. So much work & pain -  no guarantees. Extra stress. Feeling terrible. Heartaches. Maybe ending up with twins.... You won't ever give me more than I can handle, right?"

July 19, 2005

"I'm kind of scared of having twins, too. I don't know how I would do it! But You are in control. You have it all mapped out. Things will get done somehow."

July 25, 2005

"Oh Lord, I am scared that I may end up with twins and that I will really have my hands full. But I trust You not to give me more than I can handle."

August 13, 2005

"Maybe you do want us to have twins and it would be easier to be on bed rest and all that with Schlep off for the summer...."

August 30, 2005

"...I am a little worried it's going to work too well. God, I am really scared of multiples and bed rest and getting a van and all that entails. But I know that You will never give me more than I can handle. I know that, no matter what, I'll get excited with what You give to me."

September 16, 2005

"What am I doing, God, and what have You got in store for me? Oh Lord, I guess I just have to sit back and see."

October 17, 2005

"If you want me to have triplets, then You will provide a way for it to work."

October 28, 2005

"If you want me to have triplets, so be it...I know that if you call me to something of that magnitude that You will provide. The bed rest will be taken care of. The cars will fall into place. And you will help me to get over my selfishness and to enjoy the blessings that come from it. It's Your call now, Lord."

Isn't that funny? If I hadn't seen that in my own handwriting, I wouldn't have believed some of it! I was especially amused that I went from being worried about twins to talking about triplets! Some people think that journaling is boring, but going back and reading stuff like that is half the fun! And in case you can't remember how the story turned out, I got pregnant in December and had the triplets in July 2006. So it was good that Dave was off to take care of Alyssa while I was on bedrest. God's perfect timing!

OK, well that was a major side trip, and I didn't even know that I was going to include that when I started writing this. But, what I did mean to say is that one of the good parts of last week was that I got to hang with some girlfriends, too. On Monday, 5 of us who used to hang out together in high school got together. One came all the way from Panama! We had a great time catching up. I still can't believe that amongst the 5 of us, we have 17 children! How did that happen? It's so awesome to have friends like that where you can just pick up with them even though you haven't seen each other in years.

I also got to have a playdate with my friend Linda. I think I have mentioned her before. She is a fellow triplet mom, and her kids are just a few months ahead of mine. She always has genius ideas and suggestions, as well as just plain being fun to hang out with. Since both of our husbands were working that night, we packed some dinners and headed to the park. We got a little drizzled on, but that meant that we had the park to ourselves. This is a good thing, when you could easily pass your kids off as sextuplets. And, we had my triple stroller and her choo choo wagon to draw that much more attention to us. But the comments weren't too bad, considering. There was a guy who was out in his yard with his two dogs who surprised me by saying, "And I thought I had my hands full." For some reason, the guy comments always amuse me more. I didn't even know this guy was watching us, as we were walking in a remote part of the park. But anyway, (boy am I distracted tonight), there is nothing in this world like another mom to relate to what you are going through. Something about watching our triplets together and how they all fight and throw tantrums the same way just gave us a sense of normalcy (OK, mine were the ones fighting and hers were good, but I hear they do fight). Being normal is something our family doesn't experience very often, so it's nice when we finally get that. It makes me look forward to our upcoming picnic, where all the triplets and more families will show up and hang out. I think it will be organized chaos.

And then, of course, I mentioned that I got to go to the women's retreat this weekend for our church. Dave turned down my offers to schedule help and watched the kids by himself (I was gone for about 24 hours.) He did great and even cleaned the bathroom while I was gone. What a man! (Yikes, yet another rabbit trail.)

But the retreat was great. Our church has such a fun, encouraging group of ladies that I loved being with. I had a great time just sitting and socializing. I don't get to do either as much as I would like. The camp we were at was just beautiful, too. Of course, the food was great, because I didn't have to decide what we were eating or fix it or do any dishes. I also loved getting to eat it start to finish without getting up once! Then after I ate, I could just sit there and chat. It was awesome! We also had fun going out to their Alpine Tower. It is 54 feet high, and most of the ladies climbed it, including our 76 year old member! I wasn't strong enough to try it, but I did do the swing. I bet I was about 35 or 40 feet up. The problem was, when you let go of the rope, you are supposed to let the people on the other end of it know. Oops. I didn't, so I ended up knocking the people who were pulling me up onto their bums. Sorry girls! Made for a good laugh, though.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of all of this for you. I haven't been taking my camera with me lately. I think I am getting burned out on it, since I am so behind on many of the other things I want to capture on this blog. I'm sure I will return to my picture happy ways soon.

But needless to say, I had a great time hanging out with the girls this week!

God bless,

Amanda

Let Me Tell You About My Day Today

Well, I had one doozy of a day today. I am exhausted just thinking about it, and I haven't had a day this bad in a long time. It reminds me of a journal entry I wrote a while back, called I Knew There'd Be Days Like These. I tried to keep from getting too gross in my description below, but there were just some details I had to include to describe the full horror of my day. So if you have a weak stomach, you may not want to read on any further.

Last night was one of those nights where we had a bad thunderstorms. So we had one of those "Sound of Music" nights where we piled all three of the wide-eyed and not moving much little guys into our bed for a while. So needless to say, they didn't sleep too well last night and we didn't either. Then Alyssa came in some time during the night after having a scary dream. She woke Dave up this morning by pounding on his stomach in her sleep. So after all that, I was glad that they slept in a little bit in the morning.

One of the trio had a nice runny little diaper for me this morning. That was a nice way to start my day. So we wrestled through diapers and getting dressed and I finally got them ready to eat breakfast. Then the phone rang, and, of course, the kids were screaming until I got off the phone. I was lucky that the kids were in a mood to eat a quick breakfast this morning. I also had a breakfast conversation with Alyssa about how much people talk. She asked me if I liked to talk and I said I was somewhere in the middle, but I didn't think I liked to talk as much as she did. She said, "Yeah, I like to talk a lot." I couldn't agree more.

So with the kids sleeping in getting us off to a late start, we were late getting Alyssa to preschool. Maybe just a few minutes, so that wasn't too bad. But I must say how much I love the drop off in the front of the building where they come and get her! (Yikes, I still have to show you first day of preschool pictures, huh?) Because we were running late, I left the kitchen as is. That means sticky oatmeal and applesauce covered bowls and bibs, and applesauce artwork and chunks of oatmeal on the table, among other things (I'm trying not to be too gross). Also, I am supposed to give Jack a breathing treatment 1st thing in the morning, but I hadn't done that yet, either. Since we were late, we had to leave without doing that, too.

As I pulled the van back into the garage, I pulled over to the side a little since Dave and his car weren't home. I did this to make more room on my side of the van (it's a tight squeeze sometimes). Bad idea. I hit the ladder as I was parking.

Then I unbuckled the child who was behind me. We'll call him Nick, to protect his identity. Then I went around to the other side, and opened the door. There was Nick standing there saying, "Poopy." He had it on his hand, forehead and it leaked over the top of his diaper onto his clothes. I screamed in horror at the sight, and then put him under my arm to keep him from contaminating anything else. I was able to unbuckle the other two with my other hand, and I am so glad that they are big enough to climb out of the van by themselves. Once I shepherded them all inside, I went to detoxify Nick right away. By then I realized he had leaked onto my pants too and he needed a complete change of clothes. After I cleaned him up a bit, I washed him off with cold water, reminding him not to touch the poopy anymore! Then when I put him down, I realized that he had dripped diarrhea onto the carpeting. Yuck! Then I cleaned that up with a baby wipe, which worked really well. Then I went to go get new clothes for Nick and me.

Then it was time to give Jack a breathing treatment. I decided to let the oatmeal go a little longer to reach the concrete stage. While I was cleaning up Nick, his siblings had crawled behind the couch (their new favorite hideout) and were turning his nebulizer off and on anyway (I hid it in the corner behind the couch thinking it was safe there). So I guess that was a sign to do the breathing treatments now.

IMG_9201

The only way to get Jack to sit still for the whole time is to turn on a Baby Einstein movie and point out everything I can in it. I don't really feel like talking too much, because I have bad allergies and a sinus infection, but it works for a good 10 minutes. Jack is to the point where he will hold the mask to his face himself. But today, I guess his teddy bear (Baba) was pretty sick, because apparently Baba needed more breathing treatments than he did. (Oh, did I mention he fell and hit his head recently?)

IMG_8863

IMG_9207

At this point, I was still trying to figure out if the kids were having an allergy reaction to a food or if they were sick, so I emailed my husband asking him if they had eaten anything new. But while I was writing the email, I remembered that I forgot to check the van to see if Nick had leaked all over his carseat. But on the way there I saw this. Another mess on the side of the couch where Nick had leaked on our way into the house. Ewww! That was fun to clean up. So I started working on it when I realized I had grabbed the carpet cleaning spray instead of the upholstery cleaner. Uggh! The kids were so curious the whole about what I was doing and wanted to touch the foam. I kept saying "Gross. Don't touch. It's diarrhea." My kids have now perfected saying the word diarrhea. Now that's something you want your 2 year old walking around and saying. I was very frightened to check the van after that, but I was spared again. It looked like Nick didn't touch anything or mess it up. But what do I know? I can't smell anything as my nose is completely plugged.

After that I tried to clean up the kitchen. I swear it took me an hour between all the fights, time outs and boo boos I had to kiss, not to mention all the times I had to pull a kid out from behind the couch. Then they started to escape under the baby gate, which someone decided didn't need the boards under it anymore to keep them in. Maybe I should have used the cushions from the couch that they put into one big pile.

So then I shooed them all upstairs. By then, they did something that made me mad, and I made the very mature decision to vent my frustration by slamming a door. But guess what happened. The door responded by spitting out screws and 2 of its 3 hinges came off. I had brought the kids upstairs so that I have could work on some laundry. Looks like I hit another detour. I quickly ran to the toolbox, but by the time I made it back with a screwdriver, they were all 3 sitting on the floor playing with the screws. Oh, what a great mom am I to let my 2 year olds play with those! So I finally got took them back from their hands and shooed them away, so that I could put the door back together before it fell on them. However, I am still missing one screw. I hope they didn't swallow it. It will pass through though, right?

We have been living out of laundry baskets all week, so I was back to my goal to get a little done now that I was down to only 3 kids! We have these 3 red Elmo chairs upstairs and there were fights over those. I don't get it. There are 3 of them. There are 3 chairs. They all look identical. What is there to fight about? But somehow with things like that going on, I actually did get one load of laundry put away and another one started, especially after they decided it would be fun to play in a different crib (go figure why that would be fun).

IMG_1464

Then it was time to leave to pick up Alyssa from preschool. I started with putting shoes on. Simple enough task, right? Well, apparently they had their own idea of what shoes they wanted to wear. Drew kept grabbing a tennis shoe, Jack wanted to put on Lauren's black Mary Janes, and Lauren kept saying no to what I offered her. So I went ahead and put Jack's crocs on him. I put Lauren's clear sandals on her, but discovered that one strap had broken free on one side. (I blame Jack, who is always trying to put those shoes on, but his feet are too big for them.) I decided that they were good enough for what we needed. By that time, Jack had pulled his crocs off already and was crying "No no." I finally convinced Drew to let me put his brown sandals on, but the whole time he kept saying, "Drew do it. Drew do it." He said that last time, meaning that he wanted to put his sandals on by himself. But then when he figured out he can't work those tricky Velcro straps, he asks me to help him put them on, so I thought I was just saving some time by doing it myself. By that point, Lauren had taken off her sandals and brought them to me saying, "This. One. This. One." It was as if she had come up with the brilliant idea to put the clear sandals on all by herself. Whatever. At least the 2nd time I put them on they stayed on. I finally convinced Jack the fashionista to put on his brown sandals. And it was about this time that I discovered that I had another Nick blowout to clean up. We were officially going to be late for preschool pick up now. I quickly changed Nick's diaper and put him into new clothes. I ushered the kids out into the garage and said "Hurry hurry. We have to get Alyssa." I was completely shocked when they actually got into the van and into a carseat quickly. It seemed to make them feel important to be in a hurry.

Another thing I love about this preschool is that it's a short drive. I have clocked it at 3 minutes. So we parked, and I went to get the kiddos out of the van. Drew got out of the van before I did, but luckily didn't run off. I had his and then Lauren's hand, then Jack got out. I have figured out how to hold two little hands in one of mine, and I was holding out my fingers for Jack to grab. But noooooo. Jack had his mind made up that he wanted to be picked up. I told him no and he threw himself down on the ground. I picked him up and sort of dragged his limp body to the back of the van. But then I saw other people and decided I didn't want to deal with the stares or the "I'll call CPS" looks, so I moved Lauren over to share Drew's hand and picked him up. (I hate caving in like that, but we were late enough already!)I had meant to grab a snack to eat on the way, but in the midst of The Great Nick Clean Up, I had forgotten, so by this time I was also starting to shake from low blood sugar (I have hypoglycemia). It just really adds to the fun when you are shaking and dragging 3 toddlers into preschool, let me tell you.

So since we were late, we had to wait in line to pick up Alyssa. I felt like I was hearing a bomb tick. It was only a matter of time before at least 1 out of 3 of the little people I was with didn't want to stand in line anymore and exploded into a tantrum. But they actually did pretty well (or God had mercy on me and sent and angel to keep them in line). The utter chaos and craziness of pick up time in the small hallway seemed to keep them entertained. Also, my neighbor works at the preschool, and I ran into her. She kindly offered to help me with pick up time, too. So things were looking up!

We survived and got to see my friend girlfriend on her way out. It's always nice to talk to a mom who is in the trenches with you. Then  during the walk out to the van, the other side of the strap on Lauren's sandal gave out. So that turned it into more of a flip flop with an ankle bracelet on it. She loved those shoes and it freaked her out a little bit. She kept saying "broken" but my friend convinced her to put her foot in anyway.

RIP Clear Shoes 2005-2008

RIP Clear Shoes: 2005-2008

We made it to the van, the kids jumped in, and then proceeded to pummel each other fighting over who was going to sit in what car seat. I was so fried by then I didn't care and let them have it at. I was also too busy venting to my friend about some highlights from my fun day.

So then we headed home for lunch. This time parking in the garage, I not only hit the ladder, but the ladder hit something else that fell and hit the van. I was in the middle of explaining to Alyssa our elaborate scheme to get Jack to the doctor while Dave helps me with the kids and coaches a tennis match, and had to jump out and check the van. So I left her hanging and she didn't like that to much. Luckily, there is just a little ding in the hood. We'll fix that when we repair the paint that came off when we tried to back out of our driveway during the blizzard of '07 (it was more like a tunnel than a driveway).

So back in the house, I tried to get the kids to take their shoes off. I was only halfway successful when Alyssa started screaming in terror. Apparently Jack had slammed her thumb in the coat closet door. He was standing in the corner with his own look of terror on his face - terror of what was going to happen to him, that is.

After that was resolved, I struggled to get some lunch on the table amongst all the screaming and crying. So I decided that this would be a good time for the kids to leave Daddy a voicemail at work. So after 3 tries, because my frustrated and fried nerves prevented me from dialing a phone correctly, I held up the phone without saying anything to each of the 3 crying kids. Then I gave the phone to Alyssa, who was whining to talk on it, and had her say "Daddy, everyone is crying here." Ahh. That made me feel better. Misery loves company. This is something I do often; call his work and don't say anything, but let him hear the 3 crying kids. Then when he gets home he thanks them for calling. Anything to vent! Sometimes I leave messages of him snoring when I can't sleep, too.

Then after I threw the food at the youngest 3 kids, Alyssa threw another fit about something. I think it was something about cheese. She threw herself onto the stack of couch cushions. I think she looked like an imitation of The Princess and the Pea. I finally used the "don't mess with me" voice and got her back to the table. I still hadn't eat by this point and was feeling really badly, so I just went ahead and made my lunch while the princess was finishing her royal fit. She finally did eat part of the tortilla with peanut butter and a cheesestick creation she had asked me to make, though.

Then it was time to go back upstairs. That wasn't so easy as I think someone else got injured there, too. It is all starting to blur now. Then I went to change Drew's diaper and Alyssa yelled that Lauren was with her. I started to hear a sound that I thought was crying, but Lauren never came and got me so I thought it was laughing maybe. Then I heard someone or something hit the wall. Drew said, "Thunder. Boom. Boom." (I think he is still a little scarred from last night.) But then I heard the laughing/crying sound again, so I figured it was ok. I went to check Jack's diaper, and I heard the same sequence of sounds again. So I went into Alyssa's room and said it was time to change Lauren's diaper. I asked Alyssa if Lauren had been laughing or crying. Alyssa said, "I made her laugh." I said, "How did you make her laugh? Show me?" Alyssa paused, and then Lauren started jumping on the bed. Then Alyssa smiled and admitted that they had been jumping on the bed until they ran into each other. I was picturing bodies flying through the air, banging heads and landing in a crumpled heap on the floor. Then I pictured me trying to get all 4 little bodies to the ER by myself. But apparently the girls didn't picture any of this. They just saw it as completely hysterical.

So then being the mean Mommy that I am, I took Lauren away from the-most-fun-she-has-ever-had-in-her-entire-life and I put her on the changing table. Can you imagine the nerve that I had in doing that? She kicked and flailed and screamed, which I didn't appreciate as my back already hurt like someone was stepping on it with a golf cleat (remind me to give you a health update, too). But, we managed to get through it, and I rounded up the kids to put on their sleep sacks. We have to put them on backwards and inside out now to prevent them from taking them off and removing their diapers (like they did last week). Then I put them in their cribs. However, I didn't put Drew in the crib with his Baba. So as I turned to get another kid, I see Drew out of the corner of my eye falling out of his crib. Luckily, one of the Elmo chairs was right next to his crib, and that gave him a soft landing. Apparently, he was on a desperate search and rescue mission for his Baba. I was just glad that he wasn't hurt and that I didn't have to return to the plan in my head of how to get all 4 munchkins to the ER. We have already been there once this week, after all! (Yeah, I really need to give you a health update.)

After that, I came downstairs and decided it was time to send my husband one more email. All I sent was a link. It was to one of my favorite blogs, called "Because I Said So" and it's written by a mom of 6 kids. The entry I sent him was called "I Resign." She said it so much better than I could have. If you would like to read it, click here.

I knew it was going to be a tough week this week, as Dave is coaching tennis matches on Tues, Wed, and Thurs. But I didn't know it was going to be this bad. All of this happened before 1:30pm! And we haven't even gotten to the part where we try to take Jack to the doctor yet. That's usually when the real fun begins!

Pray for us!

God bless,

Amanda

It's the little things like this that keep us laughing.
